Kristy Rykard
I am originally from Shelby, NC, a small town about an hour west of Charlotte. After college, I moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, where I enjoyed the beautiful beaches and low country history. I met my husband Bobby there 15 years ago, and eventually we settled in Lexington, SC, his hometown. We have two feline children: a 15 year old "daughter" named Gracie Kitty and a 7 month old "son" named Cheddar Biscuit. We spend our leisure time camping, traveling, and exploring. I have been in the field of education for 17 years. I began with a B.S. in English Education from Appalachian State University. Since the launch of my career, I have earned an M.Ed. in Divergent Learning from Columbia College, obtained Gifted and Talented certification, completed the requirements for an Online Teaching endorsement, and become a National Board Certified teacher in Young Adult/Adolescent English Language Arts. My father instilled in me a love for technology at an early age. He and I often worked together to build computers, write programs, and test out various gadgets. That passion transferred easily into my own education and finally into my career, and it has become a lifelong pursuit of mine. In my years as an educator, technology has been a prominent element in my classroom, and I use it to streamline my workflow and make my lessons more efficient, engaging, and meaningful. |
Looking to the Future |
Technology in general is my passion, especially educational technology. It has transformed my teaching and the way my students learn and engage in the classroom. Now, I am continuing this trend by pursuing my Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology.
